Hello.

This video is going to show you

how to navigate the discussion

tool in Canvas for grading

as of March 13th, 2025.

Canvas has defaulted

back to their previous way of grading,

meaning that if you click on the dots

in the upper right hand

corner of a discussion,

come down to Open Speed Grader.

You will see that you only see

the discussions posts of that students.

You don't see

all of the discussions in context.

So if you wanted to see the discussions

in context, what you could do

is come up to the gear in upper left hand

corner, click on that, click on options,

come down to show replies and contact

Radio button.

Click on that and click Save Settings.

You will see that the right hand

menu or control has changed.

We can see that this student

has three discussions in context.

I can click this right facing chevron

single right facing chevron,

and it will just march me forward

through each discussion.

And we will also see once

I get to three of three

this becomes grayed out

and I can no longer click them.

It used to carousel around

but it doesn't do that anymore.

I can now go backwards in history

and I can click either one,

or I can click the double chevron and

that will bring me back to the beginning.

And so this way of working works

with both checkpoint discussions,

which is where you give a due date

for the first post and a second

to due date for additional posts.

And so it works there,

and it also works in the standard way

that we had previous works.

Just one due date

for the entire discussion.

This choice

of which way you would like it to show

does remain or stay persistent

when you leave Canvas,

or if you, leave the discussion

and then come back

and open a new discussion later.

What whichever setting you had

previously set is what will be available.

We believe this will need to be corrected

for each course.

That's how Canvas usually runs, but

it's easy enough to come up to the gear.

Go to options, make your selection,

save your settings, and then keep moving.

Thanks so much. Right?
